” I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. ”  King Jesus in Matthew 16:18b

I am so grateful that God, by His marvelous grace, has called me out of sin and darkness to turn from it and follow Him. As God has saved me He has called me to follow Him in setting Kingdom priorities for my life, my family, and my church. That is a daily struggle and one that I plead for His grace and the power of His Spirit to lead me. In this daily walk God, in His sovereign purpose, has given me the opportunity to be Southern Baptist. With all of its spots, blemishes, & challenges I am grateful in so many ways to be a part of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). It is certainly way down on my list of living for King Jesus, I do not hang on every denominational news bit or read every blog but I am burdened to see needed change in our denomination. Many who are wiser and better qualified have articulated changes that are needed and must happen for us to be faithful to the task God has given us of proclaiming the Gospel to all the nations!

I have had a unique privilege to serve as a missionary through both our mission boards (North American Mission Board & International Mission Board) and be connected to 3 different state conventions while attending two of our SBC seminaries & working for one. So with humility I believe these experiences have given me a bit of wisdom (albeit a small bit!) and perspective in approaching needed changes in our Convention that many pastors haven’t had. I have been burdened with a deep desire to see changes to not help make our Convention from the state level to the national more faithful and effective in accomplishing God’s kingdom purposes. So Ihope you will pray with me for our South Carolina Baptist Convention today.

I am earnestly praying for our Great Commission Resurgence Task Force’s recommendations to pass with an overwhelming majority. As this has been a source of friction across our denomination, I am praying for great unity that only the Holy Spirit can give us as we meet for these two days. I am praying for our president,Sonny Holmes, as he has had an extremely difficult year in the tragic passing of his son. In the midst of these try times for his family and serving a convention that has been divided he has led us with great poise and humble boldness. As I have served on the Order of Business Committee for our SCBC this year I have seen this service and leadership up close so join me in praying for Sonny’s leadership today.

I am also honored to have one of my favorite seminary professors (from SBTS), mentors from afar, and a beloved man of God, Danny Akin coming to preach God’s Word to us and also give us some insight in a forum discussion prior to our GCR vote tonight. I pray God will use him in a mighty way. Please join me in praying for our SCBC; not just for the GCR to pass but for a Holy Spirit awakening across our land. We know God will build His church and I want to be a part of it! I hope to see you there and let’s pray and trust in God’s sovereign will together!
